Voting Question: My car vibrates when I accelerate or idle?
I drive an 89 Mercedes 560 SEC that, until recently, ran perfectly. It only has around 75000 miles on it, and it was driven pretty much only around town. Randomly one day I turned it on, and the car was idling really rough, but I didn't really notice it until I backed out of my driveway then pressed on the gas. The car started to shake, and I let off the gas a little (not that I had been flooring it in the first place). In the middle of my street, I put the car back into park, set the brake, and turned off the engine. Everything seemed normal when I turned it back on again, but as soon as I put it in drive, the car was vibrating and shaking again. After a few minutes of careful driving, the shaking lessened a little and wasn't as noticeable, particularly when I got up around 30 miles per hour or above. It's an automatic transmission, but when I put the car in neutral, say at a stoplight, there is no irregular shaking. Also, it only happened once, but at one point I was accelerating onto a main street and it took a really long time for the car to switch into 2nd gear. It hasn't happened since though, so I'm not sure if it was a related problem. I'm an eighteen year old girl who knows nothing about cars, if you couldn't tell. My parents are reluctant to have the car checked out because it costs SO MUCH to have Mercedes looked over and fixed up, so I've been driving the family car since mine started acting up. Anybody have any idea what this could be?
