When we first met Brian O’Conner in The Fast & The Furious, he was a young detective with the mission of infiltrating the illegal street racing gangs in LA. In order for him to do so, he had to gain some cred as a street racer. It wasn’t enough that he was slinging parts for the auto part store, The Racer’s Edge, where he drove a nice red Ford SVT Lightning. The first car he used to practice and race with was a light green 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

In the movie, Sex Drive, there was a few scenes of the orange Pontiac Judge driven by Ian racing on the highway against a light green Mitsubishi Eclipse. I’m not sure if that movie was referencing O’Conner’s Eclipse.
Mod Components in O’Conner’s Mitsubishi Eclipse
I don’t remember if O’Conner had gotten the car from the police impound, but it was already tricked out when we saw it. The 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse was already modded with the following parts:
- – Robo Car Aero Armor Eclipse kit
- – Sparco racing seats
- – dual NOS tanks
- – built-in video monitor
- – alloy shift knob
- – 18-inch SE7EN wheels
- – Toyo tires (225/40/ZR18)
And there were others components not mentioned. The engine that powered O’Conner’s Eclipse was a 4G63T quad-valve, DOHC, 2L 4-Cylinder producing 210 horsepower.
Already in its fourth generation, the Mitsubishi Eclipse had been in production since 1989. It was also marketed in the US as the Plymouth Laser and the Eagle Talon. The second generation of Eclipses were available between 1995 and 1999 which was the series for O’Conner’s Eclipse.
The 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse and other second generation Eclipses were available with the following engine options:
- – 2.0 L 140 hp (100 kW) I4
- – 2.4 L 141 hp (105 kW) I4
- – 2.0 L 205 hp (153 kW) I4
- – 2.0 L 210 hp (160 kW) I4
